Chapter Check-In   Spring 2007 Frater

The Upsilon Chapter at USC is alive and well despite our prolonged absence from the Frater! The fall semester kicked off with our usual rush BBQ at the chapter house. Interest was high and we ended up welcoming a class of 28. This brings our chapter total to just over 120 strong.

A large group of us went on our Psi Omega Deep Sea Fishing trip aboard the always trusty “Betty – O”. This trip is set up for us by one of our alums, Dr. George Bogan. We always appreciate the trip as most of us usually come home to stock the fridge full of our daily catches. It ended up being a great time hanging out on board as we all attempted to win the “biggest fish of the day award”.

Throughout the semester we hosted the tail gate parties for each of the Trojan home games. We were yet again very lucky as we saw another undefeated home season of USC Football. These are always a great opportunity for students and alums to come over to the chapter house and reconnect. Believe it or not, the Trojans are projected to be better next year! We welcome any Psi O’s in the area to mark their calendars to come by any home football weekend.

Mid-semester we threw our Sushi / Sake party at the chapter house. Thanks to a few of our fourth years, Amy Durisin and Beau Soares, this night always goes off without a hitch. The living room is transformed, complete with decorations and sushi tables, to help create the atmosphere for the event. We have it catered by our very own sushi chef and are able to accommodate about 60 for the event.

Lastly, we are gearing up for the first annual Psi Omega Continuing Education and Alumni Reunion Event. This will be held on April 21, 2007 in downtown Los Angeles and will feature talks on some very relevant topics. The event will offer four hours of accredited continuing education. We are lucky to have two great speakers onboard, Dr. George Bogen and Dr. Stephen Wheeler. Students and dentists in the area are encouraged to attend as it should be a great event. We are also looking forward to welcoming the alumni back to the chapter house following the talks so that everyone can reconnect. For more information on this event, please drop us a line at psio_upsilon@yahoo.com.

Special thanks to the alumni, deputy counselors and hard working students for continuing to keep the chapter strong.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year,
Christopher VanDerhoef ’08, Chapter President
