Sigma Iota - Southern Illinois University

The Sigma Iota Chapter of Psi Omega began the 2007-2008 year with a happy hour at one of the local bars, which was co-sponsored by Delta Sigma Delta and Xi Psi Phi.

Soon after, we revved up our engines to begin the year with a Nascar inspired rush party, “Alton Nights, The Ballad of Psi Omega.” We welcomed 10 new members out of a rush class of about forty five. As the fall semester sped on, we had many events to plan.

Following rush week, we went to Fairmount Park Racetrack for Budweiser’s Party at the Park. This gave new members a chance to get to know the rest of the fraternity. Later, in the midst of Oktoberfest, fraternity members and guests traveled by bus to the Hermannhof Winery in Hermann, Missouri. With German music playing in the background, we enjoyed all that Hermannhof had to offer. As October drifted on, we scheduled our annual Halloween party and Thanksgiving dinner. The 2007 school year came to an end and we began planning for the spring semester…our casino night fundraiser and initiation.

As a fitting end to a great year, we planned our senior send off, aka: “bad beer night.” To prepare for this event, members seek out the worst beer they can find for our new alum. This year, we said “see ya later” to 10 devoted seniors at a barbeque sponsored by our advisor, Dr. John Hatton. Finally, our chapter proudly presented two awards to seniors for their dedication to the fraternity and scholastic success. These awards went to Lindsey Ferrill and Liz Uhrich. Congratulations on a job well done!

Our NASCAR-Inspired Rush Party

This summer we’re gearing up for the fall semester full speed ahead. We are all looking forward to making this year even better than the last. Along with our annual events, we are planning to work concessions at Busch Stadium in St. Louis to raise funds, to help hand out instruments at the first year student orientation, to increase the number of philanthropy events, and to improve alumni relations.
