| Chapter Check-In | Fall 2007 Frater |
Psi Gamma University of Tennessee The Psi Gamma chapter at the University of Tennessee has had another great year. We started out the school year in the fall with our rush week events for the first year students. We hosted a cookout at the home of our faculty advisor, Dr. Barry Owens, to start out the week. Dr. Owens cooked burgers and hotdogs, and the students got a chance to mingle, relax, and get to know each other. We also hosted a party at Ernestine and Hazel’s in Memphis. This is a favorite downtown Memphis spot for locals and tourists. They are known for the world famous Soul Burgers grilled at their bar. During rush week, we also chartered three buses to Tunica for our annual casino road trip. Rush week is always fun for members and new first year students interested in getting to know everyone at school. Throughout the year we have had mixers and happy hours for Psi O members and their guests. Memphis’ famous Beale Street is a popular place where we usually have most of our happy hours. In the spring, we had our annual crawfish boil. The crawfish boil is an event that everyone looks forward to. This year we hired someone to cook four hundred pounds of crawfish and invited members, their guests, and UT faculty members to join us to celebrate the end of the year. Psi Omega members at UT continue to be very involved at school. The president of the College of Dentistry SGA, the ASDA president, treasurer, secretary, community service coordinator, editor, and the fourth year class president are all Psi Omegas. Our chapter members are active participants in leadership and community service at UT. Overall we have had a great year, and we hope to make it even better next year! At the end of this year our faculty advisor, Dr. Barry Owens, decided to step down. We would like to thank him for everything he has done for our chapter from grilling burgers at his house to his help in class and clinic. Two faculty members at UT, Dr. Bob Hatch and Dr. Scott Hollis, will be taking over in the fall as the new faculty advisors. We look forward to working with them in the coming year! |
