Fall semester for our Nu Sigma Chapter of Psi Omega exploded with the largest amount of new members and the largest amount of members in our chapter history. We have 45 new members and a total of 93 members. We started the summer with our annual Wine and Cheese event at our Deputy Councilor Dr. Hupp’s house. Then we kicked off the semester with our happy hours for the new members and incoming students to get to know the members of our fraternity. Then we hosted our 6th annual Luau event at Nikki Beach in South Beach. It was a huge hit as always with over 300 people who attended. We then hosted our country western themed initiation party at Tequila Ranch at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casinos. New members were then challenged with a bull riding contest!

We then hosted our 1st annual Halloween party at Automatic Slims at River Front Fort Lauderdale. We held a contest for the most original costume and the award went to Senior Kelly Maixner, who was dressed up as a Tooth Fairy. Congratulations Kelly!

For the D1s we held our mock tooth ID and we have really excelled in providing paid tutors for our members in Anatomy, and any other subjects needed as well as extracted for the D2 endodontics class.

We are sponsoring a charity called the Sonrise mission. We are collecting donations of food, clothing, and cleaning products for the less fortunate. This charity runs through Thanksgiving and Christmas as well. We are ending this semester with a Holiday party for our members at our Treasurer’s house, Joanne Nunes.

A great fundraiser we are involved with is working the concession stands at Florida Panther Hockey games. It has been hard work but our fraternity is able to reap the fruits of our labor by being able to have the funds to host our great events.

We are just as excited about planning for the upcoming semester as we are about what we have already accomplished this semester. Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine is hosting it’s first ever Alumni Weekend in January 2007 and Psi Omega is excited about having a weekend of special activities for our Psi Omega Alumni. We want to build a network of alumni in our area to remain linked with our fraternity. Until next time Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all the members of Psi Omega!
