Gamma Omicron - VCU/MCV

The Gamma Omicron chapter of Psi Omega is off to a great start in 2004. Fall recruiting was very successful with thirteen new members joining. Our chapter started the year with a back-to-school party and a Post Gross party for the freshman dental students at Mulligan's Sports Bar. We had a large turnout of current members and prospective students enjoying drinks, food, and relaxing and socializing. Our first community service project of the year was a blood drive at the school, which brought in an enormous amount of blood for the local blood bank. Some participants even spent the extra time to donate platelets as well. On October 23rd our chapter participated in the Strain for the Brain 5K and half marathon in conjunction with Virginia Brain Tumor Foundation. This year we raised $12,000 for brain tumor research at the Medical College
of Virginia.

Upcoming events include a formal initiation party on November 20th, a Super Bowl party, tailgating and socializing at the Strawberry Hill horse races, and a community service project that includes working with Cannon's child identification program to finger print, take DNA samples, and take pictures of children in the unfortunate event something happens to them and their family needs a compilation of information to give investigators.

The final project of the year is the Jamaica Project in which selected students go to Jamaica to provide free dental care to the people there. This is always a much anticipated culmination of the school year for the senior students. We wish them much luck as they head out to make a difference in the lives of so many needy people.

This year our chapter also received the Regional Founder's Award for Community Service, which we continue to strive to achieve again. Many thanks to all of our new officers: Valerie Byrnside, Katie Benner, Allison Robeson, Guarav Argawahl, Jeannene Bradley, and Allyson Sheffield for their dedication to Psi Omega and to our advisor, Dr. Frank Robertello, for his advice, guidance, and support. We hope to make this another outstanding year for the fraternity and its members. Good luck to everyone during this academic year.

Allison Robeson, ('07), Chapter Secretary

Gamma Gamma - University of Florida

The Gamma Gamma Chapter of the University of Florida Psi Omega Chapter has just concluded another successful semester. Our fall rush included a booth at the College of Dentistry club fair and two happy hour events at local venues. We had our most exciting tailgating year yet, always full of great food and fun. Not only is Florida football important, but so is the spirited time we get to spend with our fellow classmates, faculty, and alumni.

Psi Omega also continued our tradition of monthly happy hours. We ventured to some new hot spots like Gainesville Ale House and Gators Dockside. It is where we wind down from our busy days and celebrate the completion of a freshman block exam, junior mock boards, or just another month gone by.

Initiation occurred in October and we are glad to welcome all of our new members to such a great organization. We are starting a new community service project this year, volunteering at the pediatric cancer center. Everyone is excited to venture into new territory. The Gamma Gamma chapter is ready to head into a new semester. Our spring semester plans include more happy hours, at Cinco de Mayo fiesta, and a St. Patrick's Day celebration.

Until next time...Go Gators!
