It is my honor to serve as the National President for the Psi Omega Fraternity. I have been a member of this organization since my freshman year in dental school and have enjoyed the times shared with fellow members for the past 29 years.

As I type this letter, while in my office here at the Medical University of South Carolina, I am looking at a fraternal achievement award from the Sigma Chi Chapter that I received in 1983. Obviously community service has been very important to me throughout my professional life. As a long standing member of Psi Omega it is heartening to see the national reports submitted from each chapter/province finalist for consideration for the national founder’s award. Congratulations to all of our student members who are so ardent in their outreach activities. I hope our entire student members participate in some way in community service and continue throughout their professional career.

This year the ADA and Psi Omega annual national meeting were held in San Francisco. Dr. Mark Feldman was nominated and accepted his installation as 144th president of the ADA. During his inaugural address to the House of Delegates he emphasized the theme of “Now is the time”. He stressed the necessity for dealing with many issues but in particular changes in the profession, access to care, and dental education.

Now is the time for all Psi Omega members both students and alumni to get involved. Become an active participant in the change process facing our profession, work to resolve the access to care issue, and support dental education by supporting your school and Psi Omega chapter. As a student member become involved in your chapter’s activities, as an alumni near a Psi Omega chapter call and visit see how you can help.

Now is the time. There are many benefits of your membership but most importantly are the life long friendships. Best wishes to all for a happy healthy and successful year.
