“Making a difference.” It’s a phrase that we hear a lot in our lives, especially these days when there seems to be more need in the world than ever before. If your mailbox is anything like mine, I am overwhelmed weekly by the number of solicitations asking me to “make a difference” in the world. There is literally a smorgasbord of opportunities to give and serve, but with this opportunity comes the hard, cold reality that all of us have finite limits on our time and resources. Despite our desire to sometimes want to help everyone, we unfortunately have to pick and choose those ways in which we can best “make a difference.” And while Psi Omega Fraternity may not be the world’s largest or neediest organization, I can assure you that it does indeed “make a difference”. I wish every Psi Omega active and alumni member could have attended this past spring’s Psi Omega National Conclave in St. Louis. Students from all over the United States attended this weekend conference to present reports about the successes of their local chapters with their fellow Psi Omegas. These ambitious actives gave awesome PowerPoint presentations, sharing extremely helpful knowledge and pearls of information with each other on such topics as rush activities, membership, initiation ceremonies, dinner events, chapter meetings, educational programs, social activities and events, chapter traditions, and community service projects. I was overwhelmed by the talent, energy, and hard work of these future leaders of our profession. A special thanks to Dr. John Hatton from Saint Louis University for arranging the facility, as well as Dr. Tom Kays, Dr. Jimmy Rivers and Ms. Emily Lemacks at the National Office for coordinating this fantastic bi-annual national event. As you peruse this issue, take time to read about what is going on at our local chapters. There are those who stereotype fraternities as party organizations, but just look at the quality of the activities these dental students are engaged in, both in their dental schools and local communities! We see that the chapters of this professional fraternity are producing not only lifelong relationships, but that its members are the future of the dental profession, just as its current alumni are its lifeblood. Yes, Psi Omega Dental Fraternity DOES “make a difference!” I want to personally thank each and every one of you for supporting this outstanding organization, and ensuring its future for many years to come! All the best! Sinc-Psi
