Zeta
Kappa After a long, lingering, low temp. spring, the summer sun is finally here! In celebration of closing in on another year and anxious to break the winter chill, we hosted our Annual Bahama Mama party in April. Continuing in the tradition of much improved parties and social events this year, we had a great turnout. All attendees were given a silk lei to augment their beach attire. The whole house came together to transform our rec room into a tropical beach scene. The walls were covered with murals to give the illusion of ocean sands, birds in the air, and palm trees everywhere. Of course, our lights, disco ball and fog machine cranked off the dance party when we were ready. One of the favorite new additions to our party scene has been the Wet/Dry Line (our Psi O Bar). Between the bar and a self-service fountain of Psi-O-nara syrup, everyone was hydrated for the evening. Our resident Ipod DJ Brett Moore had a slick mix of tunes that forced even the most timid of dentites to jump up and shake their booty on the dance floor. A great time was had by all and the night was a huge success. Successful events like this are reasons why we are hoping to recruit a higher number of new members next year. We are also looking into lowering our membership dues for people that are not interested in parking privileges which is one of the greatest benefits of membership. Our house is a mere 5 blocks from school and parking is premium in the area. Also this spring, we welcomed our local ASDA Chapter as they held their Spring BBQ at our house. We offered our grill, keg, music and front yard for some lawn games. We have a small city park which doubles as a front yard, so we enjoyed some Frisbee and volleyball. The weather was surprisingly cooperative and we made an evening out of the event. This summer we hope to complete two major projects at the house. Now that the bathroom has been remodeled, we’ll focus on replacing the flooring throughout the house. This will make for an interesting time as we try to get around without touching the ground… The new flooring will give the house a modernized look and make the dance floor even more attractive to our guests. Secondly, we hope to paint the walls in the house and paint some large greek letters on the wall in our entryway. If we have any time left over, some of us may try and attend school a few days! It will be a busy
summer, but I believe our new leadership is up to the challenge. House
managers Bryan Behm (D3) and Dave Purcell (D2) have already begun to
implement some new ideas to keep things around the house running smoothly.
As I start my term as President, I am looking forward to all that lies
ahead and working with all the new leaders and Alumni. We are very fortunate
here at the Zeta Kappa chapter to have a strong group of Alumni that
support us and help make the fraternity such a great experience. |
