Zeta
University of Pennsylvania

As the 2008-09 school year came to an end, the members of the University of Pennsylvania’s Zeta Chapter had once again forged many great memories together and could look back at a semester filled with house parties, fraternity dinners, community outreach and great company.

After significantly increasing the size of our chapter in the fall, we had even more members excited to get involved. We kicked off 2009 with our annual “Frostbyte Party”, which was held at the house. We had hot apple cider, a fire pit outside for roasting marshmallows, and a huge crowd that kept the fun going late into the night.

Community service was an area that we felt we wanted to be more involved in this past year, and we were able to participate in two great events. Dylan Bordonaro, class of 2011, filmed a movie starring Psi Omega members and hosted a movie screening at the dental school. The Hollywood- esque acting and directing of the film were impressive in themselves, but the event also raised $1200 all of which was donated to Operation Smile to fund cleft palate surgeries for children who are in great need of our help.

Many of our members also participated in the Oral Cancer Walk in Philadelphia, organized by a second-year member, Natalie Powell. Members did the 5-mile walk wearing our fraternity’s tshirts while raising money for an important cause. As the weather got warmer in Philadelphia, the Zeta Chapter decided to end the school year with our first ever toga party! We also invited students at other Penn graduate programs, and the house was filled with togas ranging from elegant and proper Roman to... some who should go back and read the directions for toga tying on google. com. All in all, everyone enjoyed having a theme party, and we are already throwing around new ideas for next year.

Aside from organized events, Psi Omega members have been enjoying the house as we are continuing to make improvements. The porch has been sanded and repainted to make it an even more enjoyable area for outside grilling and get togethers. We are looking forward to the summer and many more BBQ’s with our members and friends.

During alumni weekend in May, we had multiple members from the class of 1974 come back to our house and admire the many changes that we’ve made. We traded stories of dental school life and enjoyed hearing about their experiences of Psi O “back in the day”. Some even made donations to our chapter after seeing that their funding has gone toward such great improvements. We are fortunate to have such supportive alumni who have helped us to grow into the great chapter that we are now.

We are very excited to welcome our senior members into Alumni status and congratulate them on all of their success! As we wish them well, we look ahead to next fall, where we will continue to expand our fraternity with a new incoming class. All of our members, old and new, are proud to be a part of Psi Omega, and we thank our supportive alumni members at Penn Dental Medicine, including our advisor, Dr. Arthur Steinberg, who help us to be an esteemed organization within our university. Thanks for another great year!
