My name is Charles Polzin, current president of the Xi Chapter of Psi Omega Fraternity at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I would like to take a moment and give a brief update of the events and future plans for our chapter in the next coming year. The Xi Chapter at Marquette has experienced a bit of a decline in membership over the last few years and we are hoping to start things off this year on a good foot with a healthy class of new members in the fall.

We plan to increase interest in joining the fraternity by offering new dental students a means of support both academically and socially. The national visit our chapter made to Charleston this past year gave us some great ideas to offer the D1’s something they have not had before at Marquette. Plans are in the works for a dental simulation lab support and advanced training sessions in areas such as waxing teeth, cutting tooth preps, and rubber dam placement. We feel that it would be invaluable to have both students and faculty that are Psi Omega members actually demonstrating these procedures in a one on one setting.

The Xi chapter at Marquette also has a rich history of members entering dental specialty programs. We have plans to hold information sessions with members in each of the specialty areas for new students in a type of lunch and learn session. The students will have a chance to get information on these areas of dentistry that otherwise get very little exposure early on in the education.

Socially the Chapter does very well with our annual Halloween events and ski trips but we would like to increase the number of events to offer our new members more value in the membership experience. Our events in the past were very concentrated on the first few weeks of the school year followed by a long gap before the next big event. We plan on changing that this year by taking advantage of the great number and variety of things to do here in Wisconsin. We plan to start off with a fishing charter trip on Lake Michigan this summer and visit the number of cultural and music festivals held on the lakefront festival park through the fall.

I look forward to updating you soon on our progress and revival of our chapter here at Marquette. Marquette University.

Sincerely,
Charles Polzin, President
Xi Chapter
