Phi Rho

The members of Phi Rho have accomplished another successful year at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. Our chapter flourished in the fall with an outstanding new pledge class of over 60 new members! Our social, scholarship, and service events were exceptional and we definitely carried this spirit and pride into our spring semester.

Shortly after the spring semester began, we un-officially inaugurated our new members with our annual Stein Party. Each new member was rewarded with an official Psi Omega stein - with their name prefixed by “Dr.”! The party took place at a nearby local pub and despite the chilly weather, upperclassman and first years joyfully filled up their steins as a refreshing way to start of the New Year.

Shortly following, Psi Omega members held the most successful Casino Night yet! A night of Texas hold ‘em, black jack, roulette, and craps kept our energy high and fingers crossed. We must have had our Lucky 7’s with us, as we were fortunate to have faculty, residents, and alumni as dealers. The event was open to members and non-members and held as a fundraiser for the chapter.

I am proud to share that among our socialites we also carry a strong passion to volunteer. This semester we continued our work with Operation Break Through. As we continue this service each semester we are gaining more interest by our members. Another successful service project this semester was applying fluoride varnish to smiles at Johnson Elementary. The students, young and old, all had great time together! Finally, Psi Omegas participated in the Polar Bear Plunge, where members willingly jumped into a freezing cold pond as a fundraiser for Special Olympics. Despite the goose bumps and shivers, it was a humorous time for all!

The spring semester flew by and before we were ready, we were saying goodbye to our senior members. Phi Rho commemorates our graduating members with a Senior Send Off at our advisor’s loft downtown Kansas City. We honored our seniors and cheered on our new officers with a fine night and a breathtaking view of the skyline.

As summer is heating up we are thinking of ways to stay cool. We plan to host a few Happy Hours located in Kansas City’s new downtown district and also we are rounding up a large group to head out to Kauffman Stadium to watch the Royals play ball! Psi Omegas are planning on fitting service into their busy schedules as well. We are continuing our volunteer work with Operation Break Through and are collaborating with Students- Take-Action to serve at K.C. Free Health Clinic.

It is easy to see we are a busy chapter and we are expecting another successful year for Phi Rho. Psi Omega is looking forward to the fall and members are energized to welcome a new pledge class! We look forward to sharing laughter and memories with all!
