Dentistry School

The University Of Louisville School Of Dentistry had a very successful year revitalizing the Omicron Chapter. With productive monthly meetings, recruiting, and inducting new members in the fall of 2008 and spring of 2009, there are 17 excited members and the chapter continues to grow.

At the April 2009 meeting we elected new officers and had a nice party to send off our senior members, Ashley Killin and Mark Scott. Ashley received the Scholastic Achievement Award while Mark and Ashley both received Fraternal Achievement Awards. New officers elected include: Brittany Stroope, President; Melvin Washington, Vice President; Elizabeth Kandel, Secretary; Jefferson Newburn, Treasurer; Laura Scott, Editor; Rob Wunderle and John Swope, Rush/Social Chairs; Cindy Chang and Abby Stringer, Historians.

For a chapter that is being re-instituted, the Omicron Chapter made sure to start off on the right foot with great social activities, recruiting events, fundraising, and community service. Among the social events, we have gone bowling, met at a piano bar on Fourth Street, and gone putt-putt golfing to get closer as a group. A care package fundraiser and also a Dental Decks Part 1 fundraiser, both in the spring, resulted in two very successful fundraisers. There were 51 care packages bought by family members of students and the proceeds went toward providing a nice brunch for families staying at the Ronald McDonald house on June 13. There were 30 Dental Decks sold to sophomores which resulted in another successful fundraising event to help get the chapter started.

A big thank you to the Memphis Psi Omega Chapter that came to conduct a Lunch N Learn for us last summer! The Omicron Chapter is continuously growing and we are looking forward to another successful and rewarding year.
