The Gamma Omicron Chapter congratulated the graduating Psi Omega class of 2009 at a cocktail reception. The event, held at Blackfinn Restaurant, was attended by more than fifty people including alumni, Dr. Robert Barnes and Dr. Robert Sabatini. Everyone enjoyed music, food, and drinks as awards were handed out to two seniors and an underclassman. Kelly Bowlin received the award for the graduating senior who has contributed the most to the fraternity. Brian Leypoldt’s stellar academic performance earned him the award for highest GPA by a graduating member. The final award was given to John Howard, a rising senior, for his service to the fraternity.

Many members attended the wedding of Lyndsey McCaskey and Adam Goddard, both Psi Omega officers, on June 6th. All present had a fun evening spent celebrating their friends union by dancing and swimming. Sonny Duong (2010) was spotted twirling across the dance floor to an old favorite, Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”.

During the summer of 2009, Gamma Omicron hosted a Friday fun day benefiting the Jamaica project. VCU’s Jamaica project occurs in early September and late October every year. Teams of students and faculty travel to Jamaica each year for one week periods to provide care to underserved and impoverished Jamaicans. The recent economical downturn has put this annual trip in jeopardy of being underfunded and cancelled. Gamma Omicron donated drinks and food for an afternoon fundraiser complete with yard games. We collected ten dollars per person at the door and donated all the proceeds to the Jamaica Project.

As the new school year arrives in the fall, we plan to host a cocktail reception for the class of 2013 as well as the 18th annual post gross party. We plan on continuing our philanthropic efforts with blood drives and a ramped up mustache drive before Christmas. As the fall semester wraps up, we will celebrate with a tacky Christmas party.
