Gamma
Gamma This year the Gamma Gamma Chapter at the University of Florida has had a great time bonding as a group through fun and informative events. We are very excited that recruitment successfully increased our membership with bright and eager minds, and we hope to continue having the highest level of academic, social, and outreach activities. We have hosted many social events for members this year. The tailgates are usually the main fall events, and we have also had a pool party, movie night, and basketball and more! By having a variety of events we hope to include different interests that members have so nobody feels left out. The tailgates before home games are always a hit with the Gamma Gamma Chapter and the dental school in general. The Psi’O’Nara banquet was the last event of the spring semester. It gives us a chance to bid our graduating seniors good luck and remind them of all of their fondest memories as Psi Omega members. It’s a semiformal evening that also includes the introduction of new officers, and concludes with music and dancing! In the past year, the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Psi Omega has participated in several outreach projects. The three primary programs in Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 were Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society, and feeding the homeless at a local shelter. The goal of this Chapter is to provide a diverse range of outreach opportunities for its members and to encourage its members to gain as much from these experiences as they are giving. In the future, this Chapter hopes to continue with current projects and find new ways to serve its members and the community, particularly with dentistry. Retaining the interest of returning members and recruiting new members to join Psi Omega is one of our primary focuses during the fall semester of this upcoming year. We hope to accomplish this by highlighting some of the main events that members have access to during our rush week, which is scheduled for the first week of fall classes. One of the main incentives during the fall semester is the Psi Omega tailgates before every home football game for our reigning National Championship team, the Florida Gators. With membership, Psi Omega members are entitled to attend every home football tailgate which is full of food, drinks, music, and fun, free of charge. Non-members are also welcome but must pay a small fee for entry, so by becoming a member of Psi Omega, it’s basically like getting in for free! During rush week, recruitment chairs will speak to each class, but will especially focus on incoming freshmen about the benefits of becoming members. We will also be inviting anyone interested in joining to attend a free lunch and- learn during rush week, to showcase another benefit of membership with Psi Omega. We will be participating in the annual UFCD Club Fair, which allows each club a table to advertise for new members. By having a picture slideshow of all the exciting events from last year’s Psi Omega including the tailgates, Psi’O’Nara, the Conclave in South Carolina, and other members-only events, we hope to draw new members into this prestigious fraternity. This coming year, the Gamma Gamma Chapter is striving to plan “lunch and learns” with companies or organizations that provide a newfound outlook on dentistry. In addition to the great speakers from the previous year, we hope to show our members the “greener” side of dentistry through an environmental friendly practice, as well as explore new products with less market exposure. Our goal is to provide our members with speakers that help broaden our knowledge of the dental field and that also appeal to every dental class. We are very happy with how well this past year has been for Psi Omega at UF and are excited to plan and implement the events for next year. We have set our goals high and are motivated to accomplish them. |
