The Alpha Chapter of Psi Omega kicked off 2009 with a series of events for the spring semester. As always, our activities centered on community service projects and relaxing opportunities for members to network and socialize.

This year, Dr. Thomas Daley and his wife were kind enough to once again host our annual holiday party on January 23rd. Students had an enjoyable winter evening filled with activities ranging from Foosball to relaxing in the hot tub. Dr. Tom Daley is an alumnus and avid supporter of the Alpha Chapter. A big thanks to him and Mrs. Daley for extending their hospitality and making this event possible.

On February 13th, over 100 University of Maryland students from all four dental classes gathered in the Federal Hill area of Baltimore for our highly anticipated Post-Gross Party. The annual event, arranged once again by former president Andrew Pakchoian, was held this year at the sprawling three-story bar Ropewalk. Of course, the focus of the night centered around the freshman class of 2012, having recently completed the most grueling of preclinical science courses.

This semester, the Alpha Chapter was as active as ever in supporting our community through organizations like Habitat for Humanity and several visits to local elementary schools. The Alpha Chapter had the opportunity of teaming up the American Student Dental Association to arrange these visits, where children K-3rd grade were given the basics of oral health, along with free tooth brushes. Many thanks to senior Julie Lokitis and sophomore Herby Benavent for making it all possible.

As the academic year drew to a close, the Alpha Chapter sent its graduating members off in style with our annual Farwell Senior Banquet. The event was held on April 3rd, and seniors were able to give PHT (Pushed Him/Her Through) awards to those significant others that helped them achieve their goals. Best of luck to all of our ‘09 grads– we look forward to seeing you again at future alumni events!

The Alpha Chapter would also like to congratulate our newly elected president Edgar Radjabli. Former president Andrew Pakchoian passed down the honor on April 10th, adding that he felt Edgar was the absolute best choice for the position. Our other newly-elected officers include Vice President Tessa Modiri, Recorder Alina Lane, Treasurer Chris Vanderpool, and many other students eager to make our upcoming Fall semester one of the best that Psi Omega has ever seen. Currently, we are working on planning our Fall Rush events for the entering freshman class!
