Fall '09 Greetings from Charleston, South Carolina, home of the Central Office for Psi Omega Fraternity. It is my honor to write this President’s message for our Frater. We just concluded our graduation and have now welcomed our freshman students, the Class 2013 into our school. Best wishes to our fellow Psi O’s who recently graduated. As I review the chapter chart, it appears we have had an exciting spring season. Many of our chapters rushed an increasing number of new members. Congratulations to all! The bi-annual National Conclave meeting was held in Charleston February 7-9, 2009. The PowerPoint presentations from all of the chapters were excellent. The Conclave gives our student members the opportunity to exchange valuable ideas. In addition, the National and Regional awards for Chapter Excellence and Community Service were presented. Last year the Central Office offered virtual websites for all the chapters or a link of their existing websites to the homepage. This provides an additional opportunity for our alumni and students to stay connected. Check it out!!! This year marks the 150th anniversary of the ADA. In 1858, six men met in Niagra, New York to develop and establish the ADA. Today, the ADA has more than 156,000 members. The Psi Omega Fraternity was established in 1892. Both organizations provide the opportunity to advance the high standards of dentistry and to build relationships with our colleagues. As the Deputy Councilor for the Sigma Chi Chapter, I am very proud of the time and efforts our students put into outreach activities to provide dental care to those less fortunate. I hope all of our chapters continue this effort. In the words of Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get. We make life by what we give.” Best wishes for a successful year!
