My name is Shane Connor and I am the President of the Psi Omega Chapter at Marquette University. Dr. Joseph Gaffney is our alumni contact. Some of the events we have planned for the upcoming months are a BBQ/Flip-cup Tournament, attending a Brewers game with a tailgate party beforehand, a camping trip to Devils Lake State Park where we will go hiking and rock climbing, and we are renting a 20 person pontoon boat to take us up and down the Milwaukee river. As far as professional meetings, we are very proud to say that a published Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is giving our whole school a lecture on Emergency Medicine. The lecture will be during lunch so everyone can attend and it will be presented by Psi Omega with food provided by the chapter. Another professional meeting will be given by a panel of specialty dentists (Endodontist, Oral surgeon, Periodontist, Orthodontist, etc.) informing all the members and nonmembers attending about their specific specialty and helpful hints and tips about the process of applying to programs in their field.

As far as the membership committee goes, we have really focused on getting started early with the incoming class of freshman. A welcome letter from Psi Omega is being sent out June 1st to all the incoming Marquette D1s telling them congrats and introducing them to our fraternity. We are going to have a solid presence at each day of their orientation, along with giving out Psi O t-shirts to all freshman. During the final day of orientation, all members of the chapter will be giving a talk to freshman about our fraternity as well as having another handout. A “Welcome to Dental School” social event is planned for them that night that will be put on by us. We will be having our usual Pub Crawls throughout the fall, including the 2nd week Pub Crawl where Psi O members and freshman are free. We also have a Halloween Pub Crawl planned for the fall.
