Psi The Psi Omega house is becoming a popular place to call home. We are increasing our numbers from sixteen to a possible twenty-two residents. Believe it or not, a waiting list has been implemented. The amount of interest has been on the rise and we only expect it to continue to climb. 2008 has been a great year for rush. In total, we have 22 potential and promising new members. We are currently working to improve the house to meet legal standards and turn more heads (of dental students that is, not inspectors). Fortunately, some of our many talents as dental students include painting, landscaping, and carpentry. We are hosting tailgates for all football games and quarterly parties, so stop by. The Psi O doors are always open to alumni. This spring quarter our chapter’s service project was to serve as “Goodie Makers” for the Ronald McDonald House at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Members put together bags of homemade cookies and candy for the guests of the house and their hospitalized children. We have often heard about the families who come across the nation to seek the best care at Children’s Hospital and we wanted to help make them feel more at home with our ‘goodies’. The Ronald McDonald House was built in 2005 and has constantly had all 44 rooms booked. Eight to twelve families are continually on the wait list, and 21 families are turned away every day. Families usually stay for days or weeks; some even stay months at a time. The house is in constant need of donations. If you would like more information, please visit www.colrmhc.org. Next year’s community chairs include Suzanne Delima and Mehrdad Safavian. Some of our ideas for next year’s Psi Omega service projects include making and serving dinner for the guests at the Ronald McDonald House, volunteering for the Special Olympics Bowling Tournament in October and taking a part in ‘Pride in Postle’ again, which includes cleaning some of the patient waiting areas and student clinics at our dental school. It has been a great year for the service projects for our chapter, and we hope to continue the momentum next year. The annual ‘crown casting help session’ for the first year dental students was a great success this year. Our upperclassmen burned the midnight oil and helped the first years by helping them wax, invest, and cast gold crowns. This annual tradition was accompanied by many laughs, superfluous, and the successful casting of dozens of shiny gold crowns. A big thanks to our lab tech, Diane, for all her advice and help! Our annual formal dinner at Bucca Di Beppo was a hit, as always. We once again honored our senior students in style. This year we awarded seniors Marissa Miller and Michelle Tapolcsanyi. We would like to wish a big thank you and farewell to our graduating seniors: Marissa Miller, Michelle Tapolcsanyi, Mike Sullivan and Arnell Prato. We wish them the best of luck! We would also like to welcome in the newly elected and reelected officers and wish them the best as well:
The academic year of 2007-2008 has brought many great times: parties, OSU football tailgates, new t-shirts, new Psi Omega Glass Beer Mugs, lunch-n-learns, Initiation Dinner at Wendell’s Alumni Grill, our “crazy-sweater” party, wonderful new members, and most of all the camaraderie between good friends. It has been great to have such hard working students and officers, as well as wonderful friends. I hope that you find yourself wandering this direction within the next year and can find the time to stop and visit our Psi Omega House. We look forward to visiting with you (help yourself to a beverage or two from our new kegerator) and really appreciate everything our alumni have done for us. Thank you to all who have supported us throughout these wonderful years!! |
