Gamma
Gamma The Gamma Gamma chapter at the University of Florida has been busy with social, academic and outreach activities. While we will continue to plan the wonderful activities we did last year such as our annual Halloween party and lunch and learns, we plan on expanding our activities to meet the needs of the ever-diversifying dental school. This will be implemented by cabinet members of the fraternity under the leadership and guidance of our advisor, Dr. Haddix. One of our main social events has been hosting TailGators for every home football game and we will continue to do that for this upcoming Gator football season! We encourage alumni to stop by when they are in town for a football game. The Senior Banquet is an event that everyone in the fraternity looks forward to. Last Spring, the banquet dinner was held at a fine restaurant in downtown Gainesville followed by social hour at a brand-new nightclub. Additional social events this past summer included outdoor activities such as volleyball and tubing down the river (Ginnie Springs). Some new ideas that we have been brainstorming for the upcoming year include salsa dance lessons, family oriented activities, intramural sports, and many more! During the past year, the subject for ‘lunch and learns’ focused on the business side of dentistry, which is often overlooked in the dental curriculum. This year we would like to continue bringing in speakers that focus on aspects of dentistry often overlooked or underemphasized such as employment options after school, applying to specialties, and many more fun and exciting avenues. Along with ‘lunch and learns’, we would like to build on the academic part of the fraternity. This includes assisting first year students with study tips and academic notes. Outreach activities are an important part of our careers as dental students at the University of Florida, not only because we have certain requirements, but also because of the learning opportunities involved. One of our main outreach activities includes monthly trips to ACORN dental clinic. This gives members an opportunity to receive volunteer hours while helping the community. This fraternity is also interested in interacting with other professional students. Some graduate school organizations we plan on having socials with include business, law, medical and veterinary. We are also planning on working with other organizations within the dental school to plan events. These organizations include ASDA, HSDA, and others. Inter-chapter activities would be a great way to interact with members of the Psi Omega fraternity at other schools and we are looking forward to planning these events. Overall this year promises to be exciting for Gamma Gamma and we plan on continuing to grow locally and nationally. Best of luck to everyone during the remainder of the year! Brittany
