Case Western Reserve University
School of Dental Medicine

It has been far too long since the Epsilon chapter has reported to the Frater. Despite our hiatus, we are proud to say our chapter has experienced numerous successes over the last couple of years. This past school year brought many new faces to the fraternity, as we inducted 34 new members (bringing our total member count to 71)!

We kicked off the 2007-2008 school year with our annual Psi-O Barbecue. All Case Western School of Dentistry students interested in joining the fraternity were invited to attend. A large number of students joined us in eating a deliciously prepared New York Strip steak or chicken dinner. This event is always a blast and a terrific way for our members to meet the incoming first year class.

A few weeks after the barbecue, existing members headed to West Virginia to enjoy our annual White Water Rafting trip. Psi O’s and their family members camped out and tamed the Gauley River’s class-five rapids. This trip always creates a lot of excitement and is an excellent way to enjoy the great outdoors before the rush of the fall semester begins.

Throughout the school year, we held various clinical demonstrations aimed at smoothing the transition for each class as they were introduced to new concepts in dentistry. A few examples of these are: waxing, provisional, and prophylaxis demos (for the first years); and a “Welcome to Clinic” demo (for the third years). We were also fortunate to welcome Dr. Michael Johnson D.D.S. (Mesa, Arizona) to our school to give a seminar entitled “What I Wish I Learned in Dental School”. Despite two feet of freshly fallen snow, the weekend seminar was well attended.

The spring semester would not be complete without our annual Psi Omega Casino Night. Much planning and coordination was necessary for this night, as it is the biggest event on the calendar. Case dental students, faculty, and staff showed up to win a wide range of prizes by earning tickets playing blackjack, roulette, and craps. The money earned from ticket sales was donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters. We had an outstanding turn out and are hoping to raise even more money this upcoming year.

We ended the year in high fashion at the jazz restaurant “Night Town” in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. After dinner, a photo/video presentation proved to be a fitting tribute to our twelve graduating seniors. We wish them good luck in all of their future endeavors.

We are extremely optimistic about the 2008-2009 school year. Currently, plans are in the works for many new and exciting events. We are also looking forward to helping the people of Cleveland, as plans are in the works for a variety of community outreach activities.

We would like to thank all of the members of our house committee and alumni who have generously donated their time and money to make many of our events possible. We greatly appreciate your support and generosity! Lastly, we wish everyone good luck in the new and upcoming school year.
