Delta
Upsilon Chapter After a much needed Christmas break, the Delta Upsilon Chapter did not waste any time to kick off another exciting set of events. First off, a lunch and learn was held to reduce the anxiety of starting another semester. A UTDB alumni gave an interesting presentation on the hard road she faced to become a successful dentist. She brought with her Mr. Latiolas, of Edward Jones. He gave us great insight on the financial aspects of dentistry. That same evening, alumni and current students helped properly invite the first years into the chapter with an initiation ceremony at Pub Fiction. The celebration included free food and drinks, great music, a spectacular slide show of past events, and the induction of several new members to the chapter! In March, we were able to squeeze in a St. Patty’s Happy Hour around spring break and Easter weekend. Festivities took place at a Piano Bar in midtown, complete with food, green beverages, lots of decorations, and live entertainment. We had a blast celebrating with the Irish! As things began to warm up in April, two UTDB residents let us work on our tans out by their pool. This event proved to be very entertaining. Members grilled hot dogs, played beer pong, and some even were brave enough to jump in the freezing water. Also in April, Psi-O hosted a “Thirsty Thursday” for the entire school. Well actually, it took place on a Tuesday, but the event was still a success. A new set of officers were elected in early May. We are excited to have the following members to lead us next year in the Psi-O traditions: Holly Pavlick, President; Amber Garcia, Vice President; Allyson Bauch, Reporter/ Editor; Justin Liska, Treasurer; Lauren Plaisance, 4th year rep; Precious King, 3rd year rep; and, Justin Baker, 2nd year rep. To celebrate the end of another school year and the start of summer, members gathered for a night of karaoke at Aztecas. Special congratulations to all the graduating members from the class of 2008! To kick off the summer session, we put on our flip flops and swimsuits and headed to Galveston for the annual crawfish boil. This year, Stephen Chen (’10) hosted the event. This was a blast!!! What else would you expect when you have waves, sand, crawfish, beer, and friends!!! With the start of the school year just around the corner, the chapter is looking forward to Rush Week in August and many new and exciting projects for 2008-2009! |
