The 2007-2008 year is seeing the start of a renaissance of Psi Omega at UCSF. The class of 2010 has continued to be active and the incoming 2011 class is showing much promise in leadership and active involvement in the fraternity. From the graduating class of 2008, Psi Omega is sending out Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, and GPR/AEGD residents. This year we have also welcomed two new future Psi Omega members aged less than 2 months old, celebrating, of course, with a nice baby shower.

We are organizing in establishing a yahoo group through which officer transitions will be made easier by serving as a resource for position descriptions while also allowing for easy communication to all members among other things. Our fraternity members are also present on facebook, both in the local and national group.

We have continued to serve our dental school community. In the fall, Psi Omega organized a lunchtime series composed of upper classman discussing their experience in the various externship sites that UCSF students spend three weeks at during their 3rd year—sharing the types of dentistry, patient population, living situation, and ability to satisfy requirements available at each site. To our first years we continued to provide the practice tooth morphology practical, and to offer important advice from anatomy, crown preparation, and how to form a great beer relay team. Each quarter, we have organized a Psi Omega night at the weekly evening free community dental clinic serving our local homeless population, coming out in force.

Within the chapter we have had monthly BBQs at the house open to the entire chapter, and had at least one awesome party, Tahoe trip, camping trip, or diving trip, each quarter. At our Spring Senior dinner, the class of 2008 passed on the leadership baton. Our new co-presidents are Jeff Holland (‘11), son of Psi Omega Alumni Mike Holland (’79), and Khalid Rasheed (’10).

Our house is still seeing improvements being made and remodeling projects continue to be underway. As always, if you are a Psi Omega member, we invite you to visit us at the Psi Omega House when in the San Francisco Bay area! We would love to extend our hospitality to you.
