Beta
Delta - The 2005-2006 year started with Rush. Our chapter has had several activities including community dental service projects, social functions, and education outreach programs. Our members continue to lead our school in student government, community service, and organized dentistry. Beta Delta chapter is proud of the fact that our school ranks 4th nationally among all dental schools in national board scores at a 97.7% pass rate. Our school has programs in all dental and cranio-facial specialties. Furthermore, UCSF ranks first nationally in dental science research. If you are a Psi Omega member, we invite you to visit us when in the San Francisco Bay area! We would love to extend our hospitality to you at our lovely restored Victorian house in beautiful San Francisco. Please contact Beta Delta President Atem Reed at atem.reed@ucsf.edu. Upsilon - The Fall semester began with Rush as the first priority for the Delta Upsilon Chapter, as we graduated 26 senior members last Spring! The Officers and Rush Chairmen (Jill Rosellini and Niki Benamoz, both '08) worked all summer to plan a fun, busy and successful Rush Week. We kicked off the week attending an Astros game, followed by a "Wax and Relax" after school session for the fist-year students, a lunchtime "dessert" meeting and a "Breakfast with Psi O's" that included a T-shirt raffle. Finally, Rush Week concluded with an evening party! As a result of the hard work of the officers and members Ryan Loveless ('08), Russell McFarlane ('08), and Troy Gor ('06), the Delta Upsilon Chapter is proud to boast 28 new members! The official initiation took place in January, and the Chapter would like to extend a hearty welcome to the new members! Despite such a busy Rush, many Chapter activities continued throughout the Fall. The Chapter had a "First Friday" social hosted by Melissa Lent ('08), a Halloween party hosted by Giner Marblestone ('08), and a barbeque hosted by Karen Walters ('78). Earlier on the day of the BBQ, a group of Psi O's participated in the American Heart Association's Heart Walk. In order to help spread the holiday sprit, the Delta Upsilon Chapter participated in the "Adopt a Family" Christmas project, providing food and gifts to a family of five. Finally, a pre-party was held before the annual Dental Branch Holiday Party to celebrate the culmination of another semester. The Spring semester is expected to be busy as well. Future planned events include an initiation party for the new members. "First Friday" events, the annual Senior Dinner in April, the annual Crawfish Boil hosted by Trey Latiolais ('08), and a series of "Lunch and Learns" throughout the semester. The members of the Delta Upsilon Chapter would like to extend our sincere THANKS to all of the Psi Omega alums who have contributed to the chapter's ongoing success by attending and/or sponsoring events. Without the support of our alumni and our Deputy Councilor, Dr. Suchina, the Chapter would not be the success it is today! Melissa Lent ('08), Editor Gamma
Omicron - The Gamma Omicron Chapter of Psi Omega got off to a great start this year. Our Fall kicked off with the annual Back to School party and a Post Gross social for the freshmen dental students to relax and enjoy some time away from school! This year the social was held at Stool Pigeons and was attended by many freshmen and current members of Psi Omega. Our first community service project this year was a blood drive for the Red Cross held at the dental school. We hold the drive every eight weeks, and both faculty and students are regular participants. In October, we started the Help a Child Smile Project. Those who helped out were not only able to educate kids about the need for good dental hygiene, but also served as role models for these 2nd graders. We are very excited about future work with additional schools in the downtown Richmond area. Finally, on October 28th, we cosponsored the MCV Halloween Party. This was attended by dental, medical, pharmacy, and other students at MCV. The event was not only a way to relax for a night and have a little fun with costumes, but also benefited the Richmond food bank as we collected a can from each student. Our Fall Rush was
a great success. Thanks to the help of all of our members, we were able
to promote the fraternity through out the school. On November 12th,
we initiated 33 new members into the fraternity. The formal initiation
party was a big hit with everyone and the great food was still talked
about days after. Congratulations to all the new members as we continue
to build a great organization here at the school. We finished the semester
with a Christmas party in early December. Everyone was happy to celebrate
the end of a tough semester. On behalf of the chapter, I want to thank all of our officers for their hard work and the dedication of our chapter advisor, Dr. Robertello. We hope to make this another outstanding year for the fraternity and its members.
