Hurricane Katrina... ... hit land on August 29, 2005, taking lives and destroying homes, businesses and other buildings in Louisiana, Mississippi, and the surrounding area. Among the buildings damaged was the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. With outstanding planning, resourcefulness and determination, the school's Dean, Dr. Eric J Hovland and his staff found alternate facilities and resumed classes for the Pall semester in September. It is not hard to imagine that the students and faculty experienced considerable hardship as a result of the damage to the School of Dentistry (in addition to any other personal losses). At the National Meeting in October 2005, the Psi Omega National. Council resolved to request contributions to the Psi Omega Foundation from the alumni members of Psi Omega to assist the efforts of the students and faculty at LSU School of Dentistry. The request for contributions was sent to Psi Omega alumni with the annual dues requests, mailed in November 2005, and, through March 2006, almost $8,000 has been raised. You will find the list of those who have already contributed to this effort. The Psi Omega National Council thanks each contributor, as well as each Psi Omega alumni member who supported other relief efforts through the Red Cross, the American Dental Association or the many other groups working to lessen the tragedy caused by Katrina. We can be certain thar those affected by the destruction are also very grateful for your assistance.
