It is an honor to serve as your National President. I have been affiliated with Psi Omega Fraternity for nearly seventeen years, first as a Deputy Councilor, then Province Councilor, and now National President. I have enjoyed every one of those seventeen years. I have met many outstanding student and alumni members of Psi Omega, and continue to keep in touch with many of them - which is the point of my message, staying in touch.

When you joined as a student member, you most likely joined with many of your first dental school acquaintances. (Aquaintance - a person whom one knows, but who is not a particularly close friend - Merriam- Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, 10th ed.) I called them aquaintances, because you probably did not know each other well enough to know if you would become life-long friends. Depending on the size of your dental school class, joining a fraternity brought you together with a subset of individuals, not only from your class, but from the upper classes as well. During the various social, service, and educational events that you attended together, you were able to better know these individuals in a non-dental school setting. .You got to better know their likes and dislikes, especially their personalities. Some individuals you avoided, some you bonded with. Many of them became your lifelong friends. Many Psi Omega alumni and student members still get together on a very regular basis at various alumni chapter events, local and national meetings, and alumni get-togethers.

So among the many benefits of your membership - including parties, service events, educational benefits, access to upper class experience - include life-long friendships. Also, don't forget to continue your support of Psi Omega after you graduate by continuing to renew your Alumni membership (your first year is free) and let the national chapter know of any changes in address - so you can stay connected.
